LETS TALK ABOUT CUBS

Let's talk about cubs. They are not pets. Not one single cub should be bred by humans to live a life in captivity.
Even if we provide them with hectares of space and give them the highest level of treatment, THEY DO NOT BELONG BEHIND FENCES.
Not one more cub!
There is no excuse, no legitimate reason, no genetic imperative and no conservation value for breeding cubs in captivity.
The lions that already exist in captivity need to be taken care of by us humans in the best way possible. It is criminal that lions are in captivity in the first place, without exacerbating the problem by producing more lions.
In my book I look deeply into the mentality behind the breeding of lions into captive situations and the type of people who subject wild animals to lives behind fences. There are people out there who have chosen to keep lions in captivity, who have created breeding facilities and who believe in a policy of imprisoning others for the glorification of self. These people are narcissistic psychopaths.
NOT ONE MORE CUB!
But where cubs are bred for sale, as in the Ukraine, (shared by LAEO) potential owners need to understand (I will write simply here) that the nutrition of the growing lion is vital to his/her quality of life. It is complicated to correctly feed lions a balanced diet containing the correct vitamins and minerals. If not properly fed, the lion will live in constant pain. Huge veterinary bills will be accrued. Caring for a lion is an intensely time consuming task. Lions are not pets, lions are dangerous animals. It beggars belief that this even needs to be said. Lions are powerful and heavy, they have claws and teeth and their instinct is to kill which results in the need to securely separate them from humans as well as other animals.

If you do not have a game reserve/ranch in which to allow the lion space to run, leap and play, if you do not have land with rocks and trees to climb, if you do not have a comfortable climate with shady areas as well as sunny areas, grass, sand, bush and privacy; you are not equipped to house a lion.
If you do not have a place to move the lion whilst you clean his/her faeces and the remains of carcasses, you are not equipped to keep a lion.
If you do not have a supply of fresh meat at an approximate portion of 35kg per week plus a supply of predator supplements, you are not equipped to feed a lion.
If you cannot afford to have a qualified veterinarian conduct regular health checks, administer vaccinations and parasite control, you are not responsible enough to care for a lion.
If you cannot see that lions need lion companionship, you do not have the compassion to understand a lion.
If you are not prepared to permanently sterilize lions in your care to prevent even one more cub from being born into captivity, you are not ethically courageous enough to be associated with lions.
If you are prepared to breed cubs or to purchase a cub thus perpetuating the breeding trade, you are insufficiently intelligent to realise that the rest of the world sees through your self aggrandizement, unless they of course suffer from the same affliction.
If you are choosing to own a lion as a pet, an ornament or a status symbol, you are not morally mature enough to be in the presence of a lion.

DIGNITY TO LIONS.
The advert showing a cub which you will bottle feed and have snuggled on your lap does not tell you that the cub will outgrow these activities within half a year. Cubs are Lions. The cub will be knocking you over within the year, will rip up your lounge, destroy your carpets and prevent your family from visiting you. You will not be able to live with your cub. Cubs grow up. They are Lions.
Placing a lion in a cage is done by narcissistic psychopaths.
NO MORE CUBS IN CAPTIVITY.

You may think you are an animal lover with a cute cub, but you will find that keeping a wild thing caged will twist your humanity into an unrecognizable monster. You will become the perpetrator of cruelty, you will become the jailer ruled by your own fear. Your fear will make you use painful force and intimidating tactics of terror to control your lion. Locking a lion up behind concrete, bars or a fence is inflicting a lifetime of cruelty onto him/her.
The following terms will become part of the very core of who you are when you join the ranks of lion jailers... Metal collars, chains, electric tasers, whips, iron bars, food deprivation, hooks, concrete rooms, abandonment, solitary confinement, boredom, living in faeces...
(All this being said, if you have inadvertently found yourself doing any of this and you fell for that cute cub advert, bought a cub and you now regret it, please contact me to put you in touch with someone in your area who can assist you in freeing your lion into a sanctuary that is equipped to house, feed and care for lions properly.)

DO NOT BUY THAT CUB!
Lion cubs only belong in the wild with their wild mothers.
